While Ubu Roi is no longer able to cause a riot, as it first did when premiered in 1896, it has not lost its satirical bite. Its acidic barbs are still capable of knocking the audience over the head with its physics stick. All nineteen characters in Jarrys classic fable of a tyrants inexorable rise to power are small blocks of wood manipulated by one puppeteer/actor, Robert Slade.
