THE TELEPHONE: A CHAMBER PLAY, inspired by Jean Cocteau’s THE HUMAN VOICE, offered an alternative approach to the Cocteau’s story of a woman talking on the telephone to her former lover who is about to marry another woman and her suicide. In THE TELEPHONE, Ann, seeks to punishment her former lover by committing suicide while they are talking on the telephone, to underline his complicity and guilt in her action. In THE TELEPHONE, based on pages ripped from life (as they used to say in Hollywood), Ann rehearsed her final good-bye before confronting her lover. She wanted to exact the most pain she could on him. Everything must be perfect.
