ADHERE + DENY | PROMETHEUS BOUND

Prometheus
Bound by Aeschylus, the draftsman of theatre, tells the story of the fire-givers
rebellion against the tyranny of the new god Zeus, and of Prometheus
love for the Mortals. Prometheus, the Titan, is a figure of Greek mythology
that has reverberated throughout history for the artist. He is a hero.
He delivered to the Mortals a thousand arts, the sciences and knowledge.
He presented them with fire. For this crime he must be bound forever to
a craggy rock. But was this his crime? Was his gift to the Mortals so
simple and pure? Perhaps Zeus knew the other side these gifts would augur.
Zeus wanted to do away with the Mortals and create a new race. Or was
Zeus simply a petty tyrant who was too well aware of his tenuous hold
on power? Had he not overthrown Kronus and had not Kronus turned out Uranus?
Prometheus, a Titan of forethought, knew things Zeus did not and would
not tell the new lawgiver of those things to come.
"His (Guy's) work often includes puppets of one form or another,
and always explores new ways of expressing the text.
These small
events have an enormous impact on the audience and an influence out of
proportion with the theatres size."
