ADHERE + DENY  |  PNEUMA

Adhere And Deny presented PNEUMA July 18 to July 22, 2006.

Alward sat in a meditation posture, available to discuss anything the viewer might wish to talk about. As she does in each performance, Alward used prayer/meditation to try to open up communication with the audience/viewer. This is an ongoing project theme in all of Alward’s works; “I make myself available while performing some sort of ritual, i.e. cleaning, (Totentanz) feeding, (Liminal Acts) prayer/meditation, (St. John the Baptist) stocking shelves at a food bank or preparing food at a hospice (Reconciliation).

The sounds of water, nature and a crackling fire balanced the more urban images and served to increase the viewers’ desire to turn within and to discover why the sights and sounds may have had such a strong impact.
In an age when so many people have lost any true contact with the spiritual and sacred elements of their being, Pneuma sought to offer reconnection.
