ADHERE + DENY  |  CANTICLE

CANTICLE

CANTICLE was presented from March 30th to April 4th, 2004.

CANTICLE, inspired by the poem THE DARK NIGHT by the Spanish poet, mystic and monk St. John of the Cross, is a new theatre piece at the crossroads of theatre and performance. In this production of theatre of mixed means, She, the beginner, enters into a contemplative state of knowing; unaware of the dark night of the soul, that place of true seeking, where contemplation is unknowing. It is in the dark night of the soul, an arid and frightful place, where She is purged of the seven deadly spiritual sins, leaving the contemplative spiritually naked, believing She has been abandoned and left alone. But, Via Negativa, only in the darkness is light visible. It is here, in the dark night, one’s true face is revealed. When one finds one is troubled, because the discovery of holiness is unknowing.

CANTICLE was a meeting point of the past, present and future of Adhere And Deny’s artistic journey.
